Wonder why it was cancelled maybe the amount of fuel needed to drive it. maybe needed guncotton or dynamite to move the mass. remember e = MC2

The Griffon is a turbo prop which is basically a jet engine and because of it the airframe became stressed so much the Shackleton had to be scrapped. Older versions had twin Merlin engines back to back and had to use jet engines for take off to save fuel. The jet engines were dumped over the sea after take off.

They have eight engines one behind the other the front propeller shaft is hollow and the rear propeller shaft goes through the middle of the front one and they have contra rotating propellers they could remain in the air for up to 30 hours but to save fuel at one time the had rocket assisted take off.

Nice link to the video DooGie.... I have seen quite a few Shackletons at various museums I have visited.I even saw 1 at Tucson Arizona at the Pima Air Museum USA. They have 4 engines and as you say DooGie 2 propellers per engine so that's 8 propellers.... They are contra-rotating probably for stability.

DooGie (aka -=Garbage DinGo=-)
I thought the Shackleton had 4 engines not 8 ? 8 props though, 2 per engine.

I got a trip on a Lancaster but at the time they were called Shackeltons. They did airborne early warning radar during the cold war. Instead of four engines the Shakelton had eight engine and eight propellors.

No Mike I can't connect to play. It's only been down for around 12 hours give them a chance to fix it. Could be a bit of maintenance work but I'd have thought they would have notified you about that. Did you get my belated email by the way?
